HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Three of six newborn huskies stolen from an eastern Virginia pet salon have been found and reunited with their mothers, the dogs’ owner said.
The partial recovery comes as Hampton police announced on Saturday that a homeless man had been arrested and charged with breaking into Critter Cleaners, pet theft for stealing the puppies – each aged around 2 weeks – and more crimes.
Officers and the owner of the business said someone entered through a window and took the precious puppies and cash early Friday. There was CCTV.
Officers found two of the pups in a home where an acquaintance of the suspect lives, said Bandi Murdock, owner of the dogs and Critter Cleaners. The other was returned by a woman who told Murdock she paid $100 for the puppy. Murdock said she repaid the woman.
“We’re so thrilled to have them back,” Murdock told the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk. “But we are also very concerned for those who are still missing.”
Murdock said she keeps the puppies and their mother named Nala in the pet grooming business because people are there up to 2 p.m. a day.
It was Nala’s third litter, according to Murdock, who said she is waiting until they are 8 to 10 weeks old before selling them. They begin weaning from their mother at 4 to 6 weeks.
