Summary of Qualifications
You will act as a computer scientist within the Division of Marine Sciences, code 734200. This position has a selective placement factor which will be used to weed out ineligible candidates.
The selective placement factor is: Knowledge of Python, C# and Java programming languages. The incumbent will work extensively with common geospatial and environmental data formats, including Unisips and Mosaic files for sonar imagery, GeoTiff and Shape files, and image formats like CGM (Computer Graphics Metafile), PNG and JPEG . The incumbent will also work with geospatial databases and data models. In addition to the basic education requirements for this position, your resume should also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience in the next lower pay band (NP-02) or grade level (GS-05/10) in the federal service or equivalent. private or public sector experience performing most or all of the following duties: (1) researching, developing, and implementing innovative computing capabilities for automated visualization, manipulation, and storage of information; (2) Apply fundamental computer science and information theory to solve innovative challenges using automated data processing technologies; (3) Design new methods for analyzing, visualizing and disseminating geospatial data
and environmental data; (4) Develop advanced techniques for dissemination of geospatial data and will involve expert systems, linear algebra, orthogonal transformations, inversion techniques and statistics; and (5) Writing scientific papers and reports and assisting technical/scientific employees in planning, implementing and reporting the results of experiments/studies.
