FRIEDRICH VORWERK signs a contract with the transport network operator Amprion for the route of the A-North underground cable and thus enters the next phase of the project for the construction of the new high voltage line

Tostedt, October 10, 2022 – Friedrich Vorwerk Group SE (ISIN DE000A255F11), a leading supplier in the field of energy infrastructure, takes another important step with its subsidiary Bohlen & Doyen on the road to realizing high voltage direct current (HVDC) A-North connection. The Integrated Project Implementation (IPA) contract between transmission system operator Amprion, Bohlen & Doyen and seven other partner companies marks the start of the second and now exclusive project phase for A-Nord, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2023.

In the second phase of the project, the reference construction perimeter and the associated reference costs are to be determined. If the agreement is successful as well as the subsequent commissioning of the next phase of the project by Amprion, the total contract volume for the parties involved is expected to be between 850 and 1,100 million euros, in which Bohlen & Dean would have a share of at least 30%. In addition to the civil works, including the construction of the necessary protection pipeline systems for the underground cables along the 300 km route, the project also includes the parallel construction of the BorWin4 and DolWin 4 offshore grid connection systems over a distance of about 100 km.

The HVDC A-Nord connection line planned by the transmission system operator Amprion is considered one of the main arteries of the clean energy transition in Germany. The underground cable line will transport the rapidly growing wind power from the North Sea to the major consumption centers in North Rhine-Westphalia. This additional transmission capacity is urgently needed, as electricity consumption is expected to double by 2045 against the backdrop of further electrification of the German energy market. The current network development plan 2035 (2021) Electricity therefore foresees an investment volume of up to 79 billion euros over the planning period, a large part of which is intended for the expansion of transmission capacity. north-south through new high voltage underground lines. Due to its broad performance and technology portfolio as well as its decades of experience in the construction of underground cables, FRIEDRICH VORWERK expects strong demand growth in this area in the future.
