Fusion for Energy uses EcoSys on the ITER project

Fusion for energy (F4E) is the organization of the European Union which manages contribution to ITER, the world’s largest scientific partnership aimed at demonstrating that fusion is a viable and sustainable source of energy. ITER is a collaborative project between 35 countries to build the world’s largest magnetic fusion device, a tokamak.

The idea of a joint international fusion experiment was launched in 1985, and the ITER members (China, European Union, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and United States States) are now collaborating across the world to build ITER in the south of France.

F4E is carrying out several projects for the construction of ITER at the Cadarache site, in France. the the organization works closely with industry and research organizations to provide the the infrastructure and components of the ITER machine.

It is estimated that the overall construction of ITER will take another 10 to 15 years, and the machine is is expected to be powered up for the first time in December 2025. Due to the complexity of project management, long project schedules of up to 10-15 years, and the overall nature of the project, F4E needs to an estimate and precise monitoring of cash flow and the life of the project.

As F4E manages the EU contribution, it is essential that the organization has accurate estimates of the life of the project, as any issues on the F4E side will affect the overall overall timeline.

Overcome the challenges of project management

The main factors that drove F4E to adopt an enterprise project performance solution was that employees needed to reduce the time for handling data, collecting information and generating reports. It also caused problems with the reliability and accuracy of the reports.

To overcome these challenges, F4E now uses the EcoSys manage commitments and cash flow forecasts. EcoSys is the only solution that combines project portfolio management, project control and project management software on a single platform, improving efficiency and data accuracy.

Ecosys from Hexagon helped F4E overcome challenges related to the integration of schedules, budgeting and forecasting.

Get results with centralized data

By using EcoSys, F4E has received significant benefits across the organization. The centralized costs team in the project management department does not have to ask people for quotes and then manually integrate the data to be able to do the analysis. Rather than manually entering the data, EcoSys has automated the process and the team can redirect the time to more valuable work, like analyzing estimates or looking for trends.

Likewise, employees providing the cash flow forecast, rather than manually updating and collecting the data, and doing the entire exercise whenever they want to make a forecast, can now automatically provide consistently accurate forecasts and up to date.

“With a business project performance tool like EcoSys, we can free our employees’ time from manual manipulation and collection of data at productive work. Energy, says.

“In addition, the quality of reports has increased and our management has access to the most recent and reliable forecasts anytime, anywhere. “
